Japanese Okonomiyaki recipe

Simple and cabbage-filled pancake πŸ₯¬πŸ₯ž

Ingredients (for 2 servings):

β€’ 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

β€’ 2 eggs

β€’ 1/4 cup water

β€’ sprinkle of salt

β€’ 1 teaspoon baking powder

β€’ 2 cups finely shredded cabbage

β€’ 1 stalk of chopped green onions

β€’ Optional protein: 2 slices of ham, 1/2 cup cooked shrimps, or 1/2 cup corn.

Toppings:

β€’ Okonomiyaki sauce

β€’ Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise :3

If you can find these:

β€’ Aonori (seaweed powder)

β€’ Katsuobushi (bonito flakes)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Batter:

β€’ In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, water, eggs, baking powder and salt until smooth.

2. Add Cabbage:

β€’ Fold the shredded cabbage, green onions and proteins into the batter until lightly coated (it should be mostly cabbage, with minimal batter).

3. Cook the Okonomiyaki:

β€’ Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly oil it.

β€’ Pour the cabbage mixture into the pan, shaping it into a round pancake.

4. Flip and Finish:

β€’ Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

5. Add Toppings:

β€’ Transfer to a plate and drizzle with okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise.

β€’ Sprinkle with aonori and katsuobushi for the finishing touch.
